We have compiled a list of the most popular questions our Motability Speciaist’s get asked and have provided the answers below. But if you have any questions that have not been answered here please telephone or pop in to see us, we will be delighted to see how we can help.
What is included?
A new car every 3 years, comprehensive insurance, RAC breakdown cover, replacement tyres, windscreens and glass, servicing and maintenance and a 60,000 mileage allowance over that 3 year period.
Are there many forms to complete?
There is no paperwork at all, no forms to fill in, no assessments or credit checks to go through. It’s all done by us.
Is there a waiting list?
No. Once you have chosen your vehicle we will be able to tell you how long the process will take until your new car is delivered.
What if I need adaptations to my new car?
A wide range of adaptations are available, many at no extra cost. We arrange all of these via our associate specialist, All Shropshire Mobility. They will check your suitability for each adaptation and provide professional advice on how the car can be adapted to suit your circumstances. All of these are then fitted to the car prior to handover so that you drive away with everything done for you.
I have a good no claims history, can I carry this forward if I left the Car Scheme in the future?
The scheme insurers are able to provide confirmation of the claims history on the policy should you ever leave the Motability Scheme.
Can I have a test drive first?
We understand it’s very important that you test drive the car before you decide to make sure you find the car that best suits your needs however under current government guidelines no test drives will be taking place.
What can I use the car for?
The car is for the benefit of the disabled customer, whether they are in the car or not. This includes getting to and from work and in some cases for business use. However it should not be used as a taxi or a delivery vehicle.
I have chosen the car I want, what should I do next?
Once you’ve chosen the vehicle that suits you best you will need to place an order. You’ll need to provide just three things to your Motability Specialist: Your driving licence (and/or the licences of your nominated drivers), your award entitlement and proof of address (such as a recent utility bill), we take care of everything else.
Who runs the Scheme?
Motability Operations runs the scheme on behalf of Motability, a national charity that has supplied over 2 million cars since the Scheme started.
You simply exchange all (or part of) one of the benefits that you are eligible for:
This does not affect other benefits you may receive. You can also pay an Advance Payment to enhance the specification of your car, although there is a great selection of cars with a Nil Advance payment.
Will anyone in the Dealership check my physical condition?
No. There are no assessments of any kind. Provided you have at least 12 months left to run on your allowance you are eligible.
Do I have to be a driver?
No. You don’t have to drive to take a car out on the Scheme, you can nominate up to two drivers.
Will you fully understand my needs?
At Greenhous our Motability Specialists go through special training to make sure they fully understand the needs of people with a disability.
Do I have to come into the Dealership?
No. There may be times when it is difficult for you to get out. This applies to the test drive, the application and the delivery/handover of your new car. For us it is all about trying to make your life and requirements as easy as possible. Under current government restrictions visits to the dealership are not permitted.
What if my circumstances change over the next three years?
Depending on the circumstances Motability look at each case individually and will do their best to accommodate your new requirements.
What happens at the end of the 3 years?
It’s a simple and hassle free process. You just hand the car back to us at Greenhous having first chosen your next new car, which you can do up to three months before the end of the current agreement.
